I apologize for not posting in a long time. But I saw Jesse's blog and that he had put puzzles on it. So I thought that he was missing a few and I'd like to put them here. But send me the answers to them some way other than commenting on this one because other people can see your answers.

1. You walk to a pet store looking to adopt a mouse. But this particular mouse is known for multiplying at incredible speeds. Two months after they are born, they can make 12 babies for every month from then on. You adopt one of the mice that are one day old. Assuming that no mice die, how many mice will you have after 10 months?

2. _ is 1,000 times _ _. What single letter can you put in all 3 spaces to make this a true statement? They all have to be the same letter.

3. There is a clock tower in the middle of town. It rings its bells at every hour once per hour that has passed by since 12:00 (ex. 1:00 is one ring, 2:00 is two rings, etc.) But its rings last five seconds each. When it becomes 12:00, how many seconds would a blind person need to wait to figure out that it is 12:00?

4. There is a boat sinking in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with fifteen people on it and there is one five-person life raft on board. There is also an island 4 minutes and 30 seconds away from the boat. The boat will sink in exactly 20 minutes. The water is shark infested so no one can swim to the island. Assuming that the people will start working right away, how many people will survive?

5. Five people were arrested for a crime. During the interrogation, one of them said that one of the five of them are lying. The second one said that two of them are lying. The third one said that three of them are lying. The fourth one said that four of them are lying. And the fifth one said that all of them are lying. How many people should the police let go?

More to come…

Thanksgiving & Black Friday

This last thursday and friday were both Thanksgiving and Black friday respectively. For those of you who don't know, Thanksgiving is a time where people get together with family and feast. On the other hand, Black friday is the busiest shopping day in the year.

During Thanksgiving, millions upon millions of turkeys are killed and cooked to be leathery and are very, very dry. What a waste. Other than that tragic detail, everything else is fine.

On Black Friday, there are some great sales at many stores. People get up at 3 in the morning on Thanksgiving so they can be one of the many thousands of people to wait in line early to get good deals. In addition, it is a dangerous situation. As some of you may have heard, someone was killed as a result of Black Friday deals. There was a huge crowd waiting outside of a store. The crowd cracked the windows and bent the doors trying tog get in early. When an unfortunate employee was nice enough to open the doors, the crowd then ran him over and he was trampled to death.

No one was willing to save his life and get to the sales one second later. It was like people thought that it was the end of the world or something. I get disgusted when things like this happen. It proves how self-centered humanity is. Everyone may have well just said, "Who cares about him. He's fine. As long as I get to save 50 cents that's all that matters!"

More about humanity another time, though. I hope all of you had a fantastic Thanksgiving.

Stupid mistakes

So here I was, sitting in the hallway (after the honor roll breakfast by the way), and my chemistry teacher comes along. He told me I did... very well... on my test; just below 50 out of 52. He also said that I probably would have gotten a 100% if I did not FORGET A QUESTION!!!

That's the thing that grinds my gears, I got everything else correct but if it were not for that one question that would I have aced it. This isn't the first time I've made stupid mistakes on tests.

All the time in math, I do all the work and come up with an answer in the work space but then I pull a random number straight from nowhere and write it on the page. Other times I forget to work with the negatives or type in the wrong number on my calculator and the whole problem is wrong because or it.

If it weren't for these little mistakes I probably would have a higher average. Mistakes are a big part of life so I have to work around them. But they are still really annoying.

A new America

Hear the news?

Barack Obama won the presidential election! For the past 8 years, George Bush was the president and his terms were not the best. We started a war and we ended in a financial crisis. Hopefully Obama can bring some change.

My classmates keep saying that, "Obama is going to tax the hell out of us." and, "Now all of the middle class will become poor." I don't know how true that is though. I've heard that Obama is going to tax the upper class more and the middle and lower class less. "Distribution of wealth" I hear he calls it.

More teachers will be recruited, the war, I think, will come to a resolution, and among other issues, change will occur.

I have a feeling that these next 4 years will be the best since 2000.

Election Day

Guess what today is?
...............

If you couldn't tell by the title, today is the Election Day! On this day, 50% of 50% of all people of 18 years or older go out and vote for one man who could likely become the president of America. This election is a special one because either choice makes history. Senator Barack Obama could become the first black president in history, and Vice Presidential candidate of Senator John Mcain, Sara Palin could become the first female Vice President in history.

Every day, I hear peoples opinions on the presidential candidates and most of the time they are not legitimate arguments. Many racist people, people who STILL can't get over the fact that someone has a different skin color than them, sadly still vote. In my opinion, that is really pathetic because they won't vote for Barack Obama just because he is black. I've also heard that "Obama will tax the hell out of everyone." Which I have yet to hear from Obama's mouth so I can't believe.

I've also heard someone say, "Mcain is an idiot. Palin is an idiot." which I have to disagree with. People may not agree with them, but that does not mean that they are idiots.

People see television ads that say, "Your vote counts." This is not necessarily true. The votes in one state are counted and a representative from every state goes to the Electoral College to cast the votes that determine the President. Generally, they vote depending on the popular votes in the state they are representing. But they are not required to do so. So they can just vote for any president they want and not even count the popular vote.

When I become 18, I'd love to vote. But I would be more enthusiastic if my vote was guaranteed to count.

Halloween

As you all know, today is Halloween. On this day, people dress up as ghosts, zombies, skeletons, or any other stereotypical things like that. And then they go up to every strangers' house they find and ask them if they would like to trick or treat them. (So the stranger gets a choice of what to do.)

The portrayal and meaning of Halloween in America is generally stupid or annoying. Immediately when go to a Halloween in America, you see very gory and "not-for-anyone-eighteen-years-or-younger" stuff.

However, I don't believe that Halloween should look like that. Halloween originated at a Celtic festival or something like that. People would slaughter their livestock for the winter. The corpses would be thrown into a fire while the people wear masks of the dead among them. But they did not trick-or-treat.

The idea of wearing costumes is semi-accurate. But trick-or-treating, and the idea of making it appropriate for newborns so they don't immediately steal guns and shoot people upon seeing the light for the first time is even dumber.

In Mexico, Halloween is the day of the dead where they worship their dead ancestors. So in a way, we are making fun of their dead ancestors and it baffles me on how they do not get offended.

Sure its fun, but with either the gory or overly age-appropriate nature, its not what it should be.

First post

I just made this blog yesterday and worked on it for a good forty-five minutes so I hope it is sufficient enough so far. I can't think of anything to write as of now, but expect some posts later on.
